It's the default behaviour :-) Unless an explicit monitoring of the
uplink is added, the autopilot do not need
any communications with the GCS to execute its flight plan.
Example in the flight_plans/basic.xml line block:
<exception cond="datalink_time > 22" deroute="Standby"/>
where datalink_time is the time since the last received message (the GCS
sends a PING message every 5s)
