Hi,

the "why not try something newer than a mailing list?" question is one of the periodic topics. In the past the outcome was that someone started something like a forum that was then merely visited. Presumably because people liked the mailing list more, stayed there to discuss and answer the questions.

I do not like the idea to leave Savanah/FSF to put ourselves into the dependency of Google, Facebook, any other company or proprietary forum software. The list is now 10.4 years old and still usable for everyone. Pretty sure that would not be true for any of the above.

So why should we do this? Because it is more modern? Is searching really a problem? Usability? Subscribing to a mailing list is a lot simpler than building and operating an UAV. If not having Google Groups keeps you from participating in Paparazzi...you should probably try something else.

Hi all,

the question of a forum came up again lately and since a pure forum
already failed in the past one proposition was to maybe move to google
groups, which more or less allows usage as either a normal mailing list
(you DON'T need a google account) or in a more forum like style via the
web interface.

Maybe google groups is a bit more accessible for new users than the pure
mailing list we have now?
Also searching google groups for previous questions/posts/solutions is
probably nicer than searching the current paparazzi-devel archive.

So what are your thoughts on this? Would it make sense to move the
mailing list to google groups (or something else)? Or maybe use several
lists, one for users and one for development discussion?

Personally I'm fine with either keeping the current paparazzi-devel list
or moving to google groups.

Cheers, Felix
