Evan, The firmware upload differs from telemetry link! During the fw upload, before You click on "upload" button in gcs, You should connect your lisa with usb cable to your pc. If You use it in Virtual environment, then You should enable USB device forward to that VM! Before click on upload, You can test the connection with "lsusb" command or "dmesg", in the lsusb You have to see a "new usb device" message and will not see new COM port (in linux it is /dev/ttyUSBn). Therefore I say it differs!
(If You have an old lisa and dont see running LED stripes, then You should place your lisa into bootloader mode via a cable - check the Lisa description page!) Neither mode You dont need outside powering of lisa! It feeds enough power from usb, start a running LED stripes to confirm it is in bootloader mode and then you can do the upload!

The telemetry is a the next step! You have two solution: One is over an FTDI TTL cable directly to your GCS usb port! The other is the radio modem! For both You can find pictures on the wiki! Check the TX, RX wiring and warn on speed setup in AP airframe config! If Your setup has nothing about the speed, then it is default 57600. So You have to set it on the GCS side to work. Both FTDI TTL cable and the modem will made a new /dev/ttyUSB<n>) entry after You plug it in!
If You work with modem then this is more complicated, because You have to set correctly the speed between the GCS and ground side modem (typical 57600) and on airborne side modem and AP (typical 38600).
Next to it You have to power your lisa from outside as it show on wiki (v_batt), that means Your AP USB port should be empty!!!
Then after the switch on the LEDs start blinking but separated, according you config in airframe file. After a few minutes later start the "Messages" from Session menu in GCS and see the incoming packets! If You have setuped everything correct TX->RX by example it must to go! If You use modem, then You have a chance to see TX/RX leds of modem or RSSI led. Dont forget to warn on TX-RX, RX-TX on modem also on both side (ground and air).

Lisa is a bit more complicated then the twog, tiny, or older LPC type of the board, but nowadays Lisa is near the same in handling.

but the following error message appeared
