I am not sure why you do not want to do as suggested earlier:

  parallel gunzip ::: *gz

Consider reading http://www.gnu.org/gnu/manifesto.html as that will
give you a better understanding of the GNU Project.

One of the ways of financing development of free software is by
getting paid for developing extensions that the users need or by
letting the users develop these parts themselves.

In this case you are asking for a bug fix that does not seem trivial
and which I (who is also a user) have no need for. As I read your
email you seem to assume that I should spend a significant amount of
time on that at no cost.

I have spent several man years developing GNU Parallel from which the
users of GNU Parallel benefit. I have provided the service of helping
you locating the bug and thus made it easier for you to fix this bug
yourself. Free software is not about price, but about empowering the
users, so they can improve the software that is important for them -
by doing it themselves or (if they prefer) by paying someone they
trust will do a good job.

I hope if you continue to use free software that you will also
contribute to making it better.
