Do what you need to do. This theme+template+css stuff is for the included templates so new installs can choose a layout they like and then choose a color they like without having to futs with it much. Not everyone has the resources or the talent or even the motivation to create a template as elaborate as yours. phpGW has the technology in place to a be an extremely flexable solution. It's even so flexable that you can choose to block off some of the flexablity and create a hard-coded solution such as your template.
