After upgrading from stable to testing I think php4-mysql never 
worked. With stable php4-mysql (packages from debian) worked fine.

In the php.ini there is a line for mysql, but there is a ";" before 
it. Maybe your package found an entry, but did not remove the ";"

Do you know what the problem with the php4-xmlrpc package could be? 
There will be written an entry in php.ini but the xmlrpc.so never created.
