Details:

These patches are a prerequisite for the upcoming text importer dialog.  They
make it possible for the text importer to figure out (guess) the input format
of each column of data.  In my testing with a number of files found around the
net, they are quite effective.

Each patch has a short explanation at the top.

These patches should not conflict with one another, but they are intended for
application in the following order on top of current CVS:
fmt_fix.patch
datetime-min-width-fix.patch
ss_match_char_in.patch
format-guesser.patch

The latest posted text-import.patch will not apply cleanly on top of these
patches (or on top of current CVS).  I'm working on that.
