If I don't set the PATH for configure then I get this: ERROR: "powerpc-linux-gnu-gcc" either does not exist or does not work

I don't have a patch for it currently.
Why do you need --extra-cflags + --extra-ldflags btw?
For selecting the multilib variant (e500v2 SPE versus normal floating point, and eventually I'll probably use it for 32-bit versus 64-bit as well).
