Oh yes, that helps:

while true; do (sleep 5; echo -e 
'\001cq\n')|/opt/qemu-try-world3/bin/qemu-system-x86_64 -machine 
pc-i440fx-2.3,accel=kvm -m 8192 -smp 20 -nographic -device sga; done

gets it under a minute on my other box; Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2620 v2 @ 
2.10GHz
(Running a 3.18)
