Details:

In _reproduce/analysis/make/paper.mk_, we have


    103           pdflatex -shell-escape -halt-on-error $$p/paper.tex


but the _info pdflatex_ page says

>        -shell-escape
>              Enable the \write18{command} construct.  The command can be any
shell command.  This construct is normally disallowed for security reasons.

Why should this security concern be overridden?
