Follow-up Comment #5:

Lasse Collin, the xz developer, proposed a much cleaner fix, on the Libera
Chat irc channel #tukaani, as suggested at https://tukaani.org . I'm currently
testing the fix.

I've also reset the status to 'in progress', because Lasse said that the two
library version numbers causing the problem are development versions, i.e.
they shouldn't normally be used in any stable OS.
