We could write the GNU mirrors (the ones we have contacts for) and see
if they are interested.

I haven't announced it yet, but after much discussion Randy Kobes at the
U. of Winnipeg has set up to autoredirect to a
"nearby" ftp mirror, based on the originating IP address and using
mirmon to try to avoid down/dead mirrors.  (There is also for TeX.)  I imagine he'd be happy to do the same
for nongnu once we get a batch of mirrors signed up.
