Dennis Smit <address@hidden> described the package as follows:
License: lgpl
Other License:
Package: Libvisual - media visualisation layer
System name: libvisual
Type: non-GNU

Description:
Libvisual:

Libvisual is an abstraction layer that handles audio visualisation as in, eye
candy produced on music. It's an layer between the visualisation plugins and
the applications that want visualisation.

The current situation is that there are visualisation plugins mostly
aimed at the xmms framework. Most of them are hacky, they all use
a different method of drawing themselves and it's basicly impossible
to visualize without using xmms.

The prefered situation is that all players can easily use all
visualisation plugins and draw them on whatever, wherever they want.

This is where libvisual jumps in by providing a plugin interface and
application interface. It's been discussed heavily with a few authors of
plugins and players and people like to kinda 'push' it as a standard.

A snapshot (far from ready):

Other Software Required:
the test suite depends on libSDL.

there is an esd input plugin that depends on esd.
