Full Name:
  *GNU gzip*

System Group Name:

  Official GNU software

GNU General Public License V2 or later

Paul Eggert is now the maintainer of the long-moribund gzip, and I am doing
what I can to facilitate it. We'd like to set up a savannah project as usual
for it. Any problems?

The last (ancient) official release of the software is at, as if you didn't know :). Of course we will fix
licensing niglets, etc., of which I'm sure there are some. gzip predates the
extensive checking we do nowadays by a good many years.

Other Comments:
gzip is an official GNU package, needless to say.
