Follow-up Comment #1, bug #31073 (project screen):
Thanks to some help on the IRC channel, I've figured out the issue was that I
had to specify -p 0 (for example) when sending the command. This bug report
should probably be closed as a not-a-bug. Maybe a small update to the man page
about use of -X with -d -m might be useful, though. Sorry for the
inconvenience.
