Now I am totally confused. dvtm running INSIDE screen's vertical split
does not exhibit any slowdown. Currently I added to my screenrc:

bind g screen -t py dvtm ipython
bind c screen -t ba dvtm bash

And the issue with slow refreshing in vertical split is gone!
