Ah right, ‘distclean’ removes a bit too much. Well, could you remove
the guile-reader-0.6 directory and start from the tarball afresh?

That file has:
--8<---------------cut here---------------start------------->8---
configure:12689: checking for scm_take_u8vector
configure:12689: gcc -o conftest -g -O2 -pthread -I/usr/include/guile/2.0
-lguile-2.0 -lgc conftest.c >&5
/tmp/ccjBhGLq.o: In function `main':
/usr/local/src/guile-reader-0.6/conftest.c:65: undefined reference to
`scm_take_u8vector'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
--8<---------------cut here---------------end--------------->8---
That is very surprising: normally libguile-2.0.so always provides
‘scm_take_u8vector’ (it’s not an optional feature), so I don’t see how
this can happen. Hmm...
Is this Guile package different from the one on the other machine?

As intended. :-)
Thanks,
