Indeed, saw that announcement.

The quick answer is that there are currently no plans for any change
away from BDB (and I wouldn't expect one in the medium timeframe). And
using one of the older branches with an appropriate license is a good
alternative.

FWIW, I expect we'll get into similar discussions in Gentoo as well
(where I'm packaging SKS), but the current version in our stable tree is
based on the 4.8 branch.
