Thanks for your answer.

Using the previous release, the generic.c file was patched to avoid the issue.
It concerned the language->charset parameter of the g_convert_with_fallback 
function call; the parameter was replaced with e.g. "UTF-8". 

I will be glad to try the new 0.5-rc1 release,
