Hi Jan,

The access rights of your sound devices are curious.
Why should speech-dispatcher own these devices??
This makes no sense to me.
ls -all /dev/snd
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 380 2007-11-26 09:01 .
drwxr-xr-x 18 root root 9640 2007-11-27 08:23 ..
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 0 2007-11-26 09:01 controlC0
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 32 2007-11-26 09:01 controlC1
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 4 2007-11-26 09:01 hwC0D0
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 6 2007-11-26 09:01 hwC0D2
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 8 2007-11-26 09:01 midiC0D0
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 9 2007-11-26 09:01 midiC0D1
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 10 2007-11-26 09:01 midiC0D2
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 24 2007-11-26 09:01 pcmC0D0c
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 16 2007-11-26 09:01 pcmC0D0p
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 25 2007-11-26 09:01 pcmC0D1c
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 26 2007-11-26 09:01 pcmC0D2c
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 18 2007-11-26 09:01 pcmC0D2p
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 19 2007-11-26 09:01 pcmC0D3p
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 56 2007-11-26 09:01 pcmC1D0c
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 57 2007-11-26 09:01 pcmC1D1c
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 1 2007-11-26 09:01 seq
crw-rw---- 1 root audio 116, 33 2007-11-26 09:01 timer

So it is enough to set the users group of speech-dispatcher to audio or
add this user to group audio.
Regards

Halim
