I have recently found a crashing bug in eSpeak, which is now fixed in
version 1.38.03 (or later) at:
http://espeak.sf.net/test/latest.html

But this only affects some SSML (Speech Synthesis Markup) tags, so it's
unlikely to make a difference which output method you use.
