That's surprising. Do you have the WINDOWPATH environment variable
defined? Does
xprop -root | grep XFree86_VT
tell the VT? Alternatively, do you have the XDG_VTNR environment
variable defined? (speechd-el doesn't seem to be using that one, it
should).
Also, do you have xbrlapi running?
