speechd-conf as root?

Hi: Trying to run Fenrir, an alternative screen-reader, which only runs asroot. I get an output of spd-say as a user, but not as sudo here in DebianSID. I am currently useing Speakup with an external DecTalk USB. Thanks so muchin advance for a solution
