FYI, contrib/battery-portable.lisp handles both interfaces with
identical output to the user. It doesn't do autoselection (yet), but you
can tweak it by setting *prefer-sysfs* (which defaults to true).
It will also grow FreeBSD support Real Soon Now(tm).

Well, take it from an old hand: the only reason it would be easier to
program in C is that you can't easily express complex problems in C,
