DisplayLink hub works on GNOME but not Stump

I have a new job and with it a new HP DisplayLink hub with two external monitors connected. I also have a fresh install of Debian testing, with GNOME out of the box and a relatively recent Stump installed via Quicklisp (running on brew's version of SBCL). Anyway, no part of the hub worked at first, but I installed a driver. Now, things work perfectly on GNOME and not at all on Stump. I'm a little boggled trying to think about what could be different between the two environments as it relates to drivers…the DisplayLink driver claims to be up and running on Stump. There's some more technical detail in this issue I submitted on the project, but I thought I would cross-post here in case it's more of a Stump idiosyncrasy than a displaylink-driver one:

Thanks in advance,
Tim
