The class is intended primarily for new researchers (usually PhD students and post-docs) who want to use agent-based modeling as a tool. The instructors are ecologists but the class is multidisciplinary and we encourage non-ecologists to apply. We teach the basics of modeling and agent/individual-based modeling, and NetLogo software. Students conduct projects, so the class is a good way to get started on your own research model. We always also have a great deal of fun and make good friends and contacts from around the world.
The class will meet this year 13-19 June in Bad Schandau, a small resort town in the "Switzerland of Saxony" national park near Dresden, Germany. This year the class must be self-supporting, so a fee of 600 euros is required to cover instructional costs and accommodation (rooms + breakfast in a very nice apartment hotel where you can prepare your own meals). The website for online applications opens this week. You will find it, along with much more information about the course, here: www.forst.tu-dresden.de/summerschool/
The deadline for application is 15 February 2010. We will inform you whether you are selected as a participant or not by 28 February 2010.
