isspace(int)?

Hi, gang,
        Quick dumb question time:

Ye Grande Compiler says it does not like isspace(char):

warning: subscript has type `char' (heaven forfend...)

It is, alas, a char I wish to see if isspace (blank, tab, newline,
to be exact), not an int. I found the #define of isspace in:

        c:\Cygnus\B19\H-i386-cygwin32\i386-cygwin32\include\ctype.h

What does one do instead?

Thanks!
        Ginger
