Maybe you aren't using the GCC you think you are using. What do
you get from `type gcc`. If you are specifying an alternate
compiler for building Swarm, you may want to specify the full path, e.g.
CC=/packages/bin/gcc /src/swarm-2.1.1/configure

I don't know how that would have found its way into a build.
Something in your environment, maybe?
