hdf5 usage

Salutations Salubrious Swarmers,

How many of the hdf5 users out there manage their data from
interfaces other than swarm's?  I ask because I'm intending 
to manage my data with a population of Python scripts, using 
PyHL from the hl-hdf package.  Do any of you have a better way
of manipulating the data?
