I don't know how you can be sure it is installed "properly", nevertheless...
The Makefile in your program's directory has a line at the top. It
either checks your environment for SWARMHOME or looks for a directory.
If your Swarm is installed in /Swarm-2.2, then it seems like this would
work. On the other hand, on my linux systems, Swarm home is /usr, and I
would get an error like the one you see.
Remove the demo applications, if that's really what you used. Use the
swarmapps package, which has the programs in it.
