This is fixed in 0.45pre3 available at:
http://people.debian.org/~mvo/synaptic/testing/synaptic-0.45pre3.tar.gz
Building with 3.2 should be fine as well, but please notice that you
can only build with the compiler major release that libapt was build
as well (so building synaptic with g++3.x will not work if libapt was
build with g++ 2.x). This is because g++ 2 and 3 are ABI
incompatible.
