Hi Calvin,

You might probably want to read the GNU Taler design documents about fee structure and metrics
as first step into this matter:

https://docs.taler.net/design-documents/012-fee-schedule-metrics.html and https://docs.taler.net/design-documents/008-fees.html

https://docs.taler.net/design-documents/012-fee-schedule-metrics.html#proposed-solution gives examples for solutions at two different abuse levels. So, 'price' in this context is a notion that can
be stretched. https://git.taler.net/wallet-core.git/tree/contrib/articles/spending.txt tries to wrap it up in an algorithm.

Hope this helps a bit.

Could someone give a simple concrete practical example that illustrates the
problem and meaning of this:
or point to resources explaining the connections and practical meaning of
"optimal coin spending", "denominations", "value function", "deposit fee
function", "maximum deposit fee", "refesh/melt fee function", "wallet function",
"unknown constant", "price" in this context?

For convenience I attached spending.txt to this post.
