All true.  In fact, as long as one saves thew buffer immediately after
creating it or strictly before linking the first image, relative paths
are always used.  So, a less invasive (to the code) way of doing things
would be to ask the user whether (s)he wants to save the document before
linking in the first image.  This would not eliminate the copuling
between the file saving process and the image linking process, but it
would save us a modification of the saving routine (no pun intended).
