Hi Andrey,

I am also using sbcl 1.0.51 for maxima.  I forgot to note in 
my original post that if I run maxima from the command line, 
the input (a^2+a*b+b^2/3 - (a+b)^2/2 works fine.

Here is the output from -debug-io:

There are also the two files in .TeXmacs/system/crash but I
