I have sent the patch as applied in Emacs' trunk. It does not contain
any occurence of tramp-compat-with-temp-message.
How did you apply the patch? Did you modify your local copy of
tramp.el, or did you download from Tramp's repository? The latter
approach would result in incompabilities, because Tramp's repository is
more recent (version 2.2.5-pre).
