Hello.
This is an old bug regarding wdiff. There is already an entry in the TODO file
for this, namely:
Select by options exactly what is whitespace.
so this email is just so that the bug appears as "forwarded" in the
Debian BTS.
Thanks.

Subject: better handling of word boundaries
Package: wdiff
Version: 0.5-16
Severity: wishlist
If using wdiff on TeX files, it's really annoying if a change
involves attached TeX tags. E.g.:
This
link\footnote{\link{http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/{\tilde}sgtatham/bugs.html}}
If I wanted to capitalise link, wdiff would say that
link\footnote{\link{http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/{\tilde}sgtatham/bugs.html}}
was deleted and
Link\footnote{\link{http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/{\tilde}sgtatham/bugs.html}}
added. It should just know that [^[:alnum:]] marks the end of
a word.
