In general, it is considered poor netiquette to send a screenshot when a textual transcription will do. In this case, your version of diff appears to have been built for Windows. Which distribution did you get it from? Cygwin, mingw, Interix, something else? It may be that your particular pre-built binary is missing some prerequisite libraries, which would be an issue for your distribution to resolve, rather than upstream diffutils. Also, the ClearCase MVFS file system is notoriously buggy on Windows. Cygwin has lots of nasty hacks to work around ClearCase's quirks. If you are using the cygwin version of diff, then you are better off reporting to the cygwin list, to see if yet one more hack will be required. Otherwise, I would suggest raising a bug report with the folks at IBM about their ClearCase product not obeying Windows file system conventions, although given that ClearCase is not open source, I can't promise any chance of a decent resolution with that approach. --=20 Eric Blake eblake@redhat.com +1-801-349-2682 Libvirt virtualization library http://libvirt.org --------------enigE7540AF42855FD746A64EE2A Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" Content-Description: OpenPGP digital signature Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="signature.asc" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.11 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Public key at http://people.redhat.com/eblake/eblake.gpg Comment: Using GnuPG with Fedora - http://enigmail.mozdev.org/ iQEcBAEBCAAGBQJM2egBAAoJEKeha0olJ0NqlzQIAJ8IjLkvwuoGup8KNCkRXs8Y K9ETDKOKgs4WqRm1D1aq9tA8nkc18jKRiYMUccOJCUwuTmCCjP6mm6QyqaueSTCn HTl8rp376/ncrZfT8tLGCRlRFr7oBDMi1X8iijwAL/RfyqPYqKb/kFOUsfvQvG/2 xyLDDSfMnacKRNjQTiPv+qmGCherpBfqNH8CDuKdLu97icHlC8uoCCVXusfOtyzY BMuQ4iEcpkKLx5qGAir95a9YcbV0sYhSdz3kxQcDGUBY2edIhKRBJsfbYEPsan8a 2F4jRD+fwhu58yZq6XRex26o0qy6pFjwysOok4d2o0oU/CP2mO5e4X5gupkeFRE= =P4Xv -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --------------enigE7540AF42855FD746A64EE2A-- From MAILER-DAEMON Wed Nov 10 09:58:29 2010 Received: from mailman by lists.gnu.org with archive (Exim 4.43) id 1PGC85-0004Kb-NI for mharc-bug-diffutils@gnu.org; Wed, 10 Nov 2010 09:58:29 -0500 Received: from [140.186.70.92] (port=49072 helo=eggs.gnu.org) by lists.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.43) id 1PGC83-0004KW-Jh for bug-diffutils@gnu.org; Wed, 10 Nov 2010 09:58:28 -0500 Received: from Debian-exim by eggs.gnu.org with spam-scanned (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1PGC82-0002py-69 for bug-diffutils@gnu.org; Wed, 10 Nov 2010 09:58:27 -0500 Received: from mx1.redhat.com ([209.132.183.28]:44802) by eggs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1PGC81-0002pu-U9 for bug-diffutils@gnu.org; Wed, 10 Nov 2010 09:58:26 -0500 Received: from int-mx09.intmail.prod.int.phx2.redhat.com (int-mx09.intmail.prod.int.phx2.redhat.com [10.5.11.22]) by mx1.redhat.com (8.13.8/8.13.8) with ESMTP id oAAEwOlw028243 (version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA bits=256 verify=OK); Wed, 10 Nov 2010 09:58:25 -0500 Received: from [10.3.113.96] (ovpn-113-96.phx2.redhat.com [10.3.113.96]) by int-mx09.intmail.prod.int.phx2.redhat.com (8.14.4/8.14.4) with ESMTP id oAAEwO1R018218; Wed, 10 Nov 2010 09:58:24 -0500 Message-ID: <4CDAB30F.1080307@redhat.com> Date: Wed, 10 Nov 2010 07:58:23 -0700 From: Eric Blake Organization: Red Hat User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.2.12) Gecko/20101103 Fedora/1.0-0.33.b2pre.fc14 Lightning/1.0b3pre Mnenhy/0.8.3 Thunderbird/3.1.6 MIME-Version: 1.0 To: FischerR.External@infineon.com, bug-diffutils@gnu.org Subject: Re: [bug-diffutils] Bug: diff crashes on Windows when run from Clearcase References: <4CD9E801.604@redhat.com> In-Reply-To: X-Enigmail-Version: 1.1.2 OpenPGP: url=http://people.redhat.com/eblake/eblake.gpg Content-Type: multipart/signed; micalg=pgp-sha256; protocol="application/pgp-signature"; boundary="------------enig77A696B87D625294BB5B44BE" X-Scanned-By: MIMEDefang 2.68 on 10.5.11.22 X-detected-operating-system: by eggs.gnu.org: Genre and OS details not recognized. I have no idea what gnuwin32 has in the way of function call tracing - again, something that you are better off coordinating with the gnuwin32 folks. Meanwhile, the source is open, so you are free to recompile it yourself to debug what's going on. --=20 Eric Blake eblake@redhat.com +1-801-349-2682 Libvirt virtualization library http://libvirt.org --------------enig5C12D828368706AD6C6CC57B Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name="signature.asc" Content-Description: OpenPGP digital signature Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="signature.asc" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.11 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Public key at http://people.redhat.com/eblake/eblake.gpg Comment: Using GnuPG with Fedora - http://enigmail.mozdev.org/ iQEcBAEBCAAGBQJM2rzEAAoJEKeha0olJ0NqCSkIAKk65WibQFNp22xPMuUrTMZo R1ORhP3mRzATAejFz3amDuhzdRb2ihA34CkXvxuIF60yomta2rsb+7t4FYgkAcHa B89Et6GsRFdOB4YKdZFV6w69bZEXs5+0pQPwvA6H9/kFITSlokx8pbWxQwemFsqq xVf+RESxv8TpPeUkjreA/1nbgiCA5VLIm1ASapXcPqCdMyJ25BmLz8dTaoPAvnuc Had08pVQljGaVSDgQr02H3K/7HxLjHY2CTWQRY77O+8g8fblGrmlBYhoC8nnULXI dJO4kA9tIzqvJ9u5J0SPiyCp6S9gdFhDVwWOVTexKRevoRHwSiEsOB2LlD9wMto= =ht3D -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --------------enig5C12D828368706AD6C6CC57B-- From MAILER-DAEMON Thu Nov 11 00:04:30 2010 Received: from mailman by lists.gnu.org with archive (Exim 4.43) id 1PGPKo-0001o0-8a for mharc-bug-diffutils@gnu.org; Thu, 11 Nov 2010 00:04:30 -0500 Received: from [140.186.70.92] (port=57701 helo=eggs.gnu.org) by lists.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.43) id 1PGCVS-0005Op-1G for bug-diffutils@gnu.org; Wed, 10 Nov 2010 10:22:41 -0500 Received: from Debian-exim by eggs.gnu.org with spam-scanned (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1PGCVO-0000Nc-Tg for bug-diffutils@gnu.org; Wed, 10 Nov 2010 10:22:35 -0500 Received: from smtp2.infineon.com ([217.10.60.23]:23944) by eggs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1PGCVO-0000Mj-Lq for bug-diffutils@gnu.org; Wed, 10 Nov 2010 10:22:34 -0500 X-SBRS: None Received: from mucse411.eu.infineon.com ([172.23.29.21]) by smtp2.infineon.com with ESMTP/TLS/RC4-MD5; 10 Nov 2010 16:16:15 +0100 Received: from mucse403.eu.infineon.com ([172.23.29.13]) by mucse411.eu.infineon.com ([172.23.29.21]) with mapi; Wed, 10 Nov 2010 16:22:31 +0100 From: To: , Date: Wed, 10 Nov 2010 16:22:30 +0100 Subject: RE: [bug-diffutils] Bug: diff crashes on Windows when run from Clearcase Thread-Topic: [bug-diffutils] Bug: diff crashes on Windows when run from Clearcase Thread-Index: AcuA57xOmGd88tltQ3i/x0qzRASEFwAAqQGA Message-ID: References: <4CD9E801.604@redhat.com> <4CDAB30F.1080307@redhat.com> In-Reply-To: <4CDAB30F.1080307@redhat.com> Accept-Language: de-DE, en-US Content-Language: de-DE X-MS-Has-Attach: X-MS-TNEF-Correlator: acceptlanguage: de-DE, en-US Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable MIME-Version: 1.0 X-detected-operating-system: by eggs.gnu.org: Genre and OS details not recognized. However, in this context, we needed a diff program which has to run in every Windows environment, without the user requiring to=20 install cygwin. Understandable, but I wouldn't expect you to actually setup Clearcase. I guess you have some debugging facility anyway. If you can send me a debugging version of diff.exe, I could run it on Clearcase and send you the output. Maybe you quickly see what's going on. But when generating a patch you sometimes need to create empty directories, empty files or both.
