Is there a way to force GNU Chess to be very easy on human players? (The easy and depth 1 options are not enough). For example make GNU Chess make deliberate mistakes at random. Hi Andreas, there is no way currently to force GNU Chess to play much weaker chess. Previous advice has been to use less time, or supply "book worst" as the book option (so it plays the opening less well - note "book worst" may not be that weak as we try to throw bad moves out of the opening book, so the worst line in book was probably tried by a GM at one point), use "depth 1". "depth 1" is currently flawed as it does a quiescent search, so whilst it plays weak chess it avoids trivial exchange mistakes. I believe "depth 1" doing too much is a genuine bug, and should be fairly easy to fix, but hasn't been a priority. I'll take a look at it as soon as I get done with the other bits I have to do this evening.
