I very much appreciate it. I'm on gnubg 1.03 and have just tried to analyse a match I played on FIBS and autosaved with JavaFIBS as a MAT file. File attached. When I open this file I get a two game match with me losing both games. In fact, it is a three game match in which I lost the first, won the second and then lost the decider. Gnubg is taking my opponents resign at the end of the 2nd game as me resigning. I found that by editing the MAT file to add "Resigns" in the first (opponents) column, gnubg then read it correctly. I have an older version of gnubg (quite a lot older I'm afraid) on another computer which opens the match file correctly. As I am writing, from V1 the analysis progress bar colours were changed to be black text on a dark blue bar. This makes the text pretty much unreadable. I can't remember what the colours were before but any chance we could go back? Or to something readable? Best regards and thanks for a great program. If you use the Windows version, what you can do is to go to http://files.gnubg.org/media/windows/ and replace your 1.03 version by the earlier gnubg-1_02_001-20140206-setup.exe or by gnubg-1_03_000-dev8-20140630-setup.exe (dev9 is already broken). If you use a gnubg from a linux distribution, you could open a bug report there and suggest they apply the change from http://cvs.savannah.gnu.org/viewvc/gnubg/gnubg/import.c?r1=1.199&r2=1.200 From MAILER-DAEMON Wed Oct 08 17:39:44 2014 Received: from list by lists.gnu.org with archive (Exim 4.71) id 1XbyxU-0005RC-MD for mharc-bug-gnubg@gnu.org; Wed, 08 Oct 2014 17:39:44 -0400 Received: from eggs.gnu.org ([2001:4830:134:3::10]:44669) by lists.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1XbyxS-0005QZ-8u for bug-gnubg@gnu.org; Wed, 08 Oct 2014 17:39:43 -0400 Received: from Debian-exim by eggs.gnu.org with spam-scanned (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1XbyxR-0006eS-3c for bug-gnubg@gnu.org; Wed, 08 Oct 2014 17:39:42 -0400 Received: from vps1.capp-sysware.com ([2605:8900:3000:1001:9:0:27:2]:44904) by eggs.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.71) (envelope-from ) id 1XbyxQ-0006eH-T3 for bug-gnubg@gnu.org; Wed, 08 Oct 2014 17:39:41 -0400 Received: from [2001:470:8044:3000::2000] by vps1.capp-sysware.com with esmtpsa (TLS1.2:DHE_RSA_AES_128_CBC_SHA1:128) (Exim 4.80) (envelope-from ) id 1XbyxN-0001h2-UR for bug-gnubg@gnu.org; Wed, 08 Oct 2014 15:39:38 -0600 Message-ID: <5435AF14.3070502@gnubg.org> Date: Wed, 08 Oct 2014 15:39:32 -0600 From: Michael Petch Organization: GNU Backgammon User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; WOW64; rv:31.0) Gecko/20100101 Thunderbird/31.1.2 MIME-Version: 1.0 To: bug-gnubg@gnu.org References: In-Reply-To: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=windows-1252 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-detected-operating-system: by eggs.gnu.org: GNU/Linux 3.x [generic] X-Received-From: 2605:8900:3000:1001:9:0:27:2 Subject: Re: [Bug-gnubg] MAT file bug X-BeenThere: bug-gnubg@gnu.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.14 Precedence: list List-Id: "Bug reports for and general discussion about GNU Backgammon." List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 20 Oct 2014 00:51:43 -0000 Howdy, I have had quite a few requests for help via email, bugtracker, and posts to this newsgroup. I have found a solution that I will likely use when creating the next set of DMGs for OS/X. I likely won't get a full set rebuilt until Next weekend however I have found a solution that should allow it to load X11 and launch our Application. After downloading and installing GNUbg open up a command terminal and issue this command (copy and paste it from this email is the easiest): sudo curl www.capp-sysware.com/downloads/gnubg/gnubg.x11 >/Applications/gnubg.app/Contents/MacOS/bin/gnubg.x11 This will replace the startup script for GNUbg to prelaunch Quartz/X11 and then run GNUbg. After issuing this command I recommend a reboot (to clear out any copies of X11 that may have loaded or partially loaded). You should be able to launch GNUbg by double clicking the gnubg.app in /Applications . You should not have to start X11 manually. Please give me any feedback if this does or doesn't solve the problem satisfactorily. If it doesn't work I'll have to resolve the problem a different way. I made a last minute change that I didn't think would hurt, but it may have. I have updated the server file that curl requests. So if you do the curl command it will retrieve an updated one. The command below has also been updated to avoid email clients mangling the command. sudo curl www.capp-sysware.com/downloads/gnubg/gnubg.x11 -o /Applications/gnubg.app/Contents/MacOS/bin/gnubg.x11 After doing this command I suggest a reboot to eliminate any possibility of X11 processes laying around from before interfering. Please be aware that it seems with each release of OS/X the first time you launch GNUbg (or update X11/Xquarts) it can take a few minutes. this seems to be getting progressively longer. It isn't GNUbg processing it is OS/X working under the hood with X11 stuff. -- Michael Petch CApp::Sysware Consulting Ltd. It has a number of bug fixes and some small performance improvements but the main thing to note is a new installer specifically for Yosemite (and hopefully a number of later OS/X releases). I have rebuilt the software under Yosemite (with Macports) and the problems with X11 seem to have been resolved. The webpages haven't been updated with the links, I will do that tomorrow. The OS/X release DMG can be downloaded from: http://files.gnubg.org/media/macos/gnubg-1_04_000-mac-1010-x86_64.dmg And the MS Windows on can be found here: http://files.gnubg.org/media/windows/gnubg-1_04_000-20141021-setup.exe Source code for this release can be downloaded from here: http://files.gnubg.org/media/sources/gnubg-release-1.04.000-sources.tar.gz Please remember to wait a couple minutes the first time GNUbg is installed after a download. You may have to go to System/Preferences and Security settings to allow GNUbg to run on your system. I have released a new Installer (based on 1.04.000 source code) and made it available here: http://files.gnubg.org/media/macos/gnubg-1_04_000-mac-1010-x86_64.dmg This is pretty much the same file as before but it has been updated to fix some installation issues. If you downloaded this previously I recommend getting it again. This version resolves: - Apple messes up some OS/X Yosemite upgrades and incorrectly migrates X11. Our project isn't the only one to find this out. The original version of the GNUbg launcher didn't handle this situation very well and may have prevented X11 from running before GNUbg is launched. - The language files were not placed into the DMG so if you tried to use a language other than English everything would still appear in English. - Originally I had built GNUbg with AVX support but discovered that Yosemite can still be installed on some older iMacs that don't have AVX support. I now default the builds to SSE2/SIMD. -- Michael Petch CApp::Sysware Consulting Ltd. OpenPGP FingerPrint=D81C 6A0D 987E 7DA5 3219 6715 466A 2ACE 5CAE 3304
