On MacOSX this was handled gracefully with a log message on the prompt. But on GNUstep this resulted with the program crashing and going into gdb. It would be nice to have a behaviour more similar to Cocoa. In [NSNotificationCenter _postAndRelease] we have already commented out NSHandling code, but even that would reraise the exception. _______________________________________________________ Reply to this item at: _______________________________________________ Nachricht geschickt von/durch Savannah http://savannah.gnu.org/ From MAILER-DAEMON Sat Sep 01 17:16:34 2007 Received: from mailman by lists.gnu.org with archive (Exim 4.43) id 1IRaKY-0001LW-2n for mharc-bug-gnustep@gnu.org; It does work this way under Cocoa. My test case was this: 1) Create a directory (mine was Temp1) 2) Open TextEdit (or any document oriented app) 3) Create a document under the directory created in #1, 4) Create a link to the directory 5) Open the same document again via the link. On Cocoa: the document refuses to open again, as you described. On GNUstep: the document does open again.... Thanks for the bug report. Then you just need to make sure you are using the required compiler when installing GNUstep. Like this: CC=/sw/bin/gcc4 ./InstallGNUstep I'd have to point out that GNUstep is still a bit flaky on Tiger, so I can't guarantee it will work even then. The reason for this appears to be that NSData is a class cluster but NSKeyedArchiver fails to check for NSData's concrete subclasses (e.g. NSDataMalloc) when encoding. On line 248 in NSKeyedArchiver.m, the following check is performed to determine if an object is stored directly: if (c == [NSString class] || c == [NSNumber class] || c == [NSDate class] || c == [NSData class] ) Adding the following additional conditions resolved the problem for me: || [c isSubclassOfClass:[NSString class]] || [c isSubclassOfClass:[NSNumber class]] || [c isSubclassOfClass:[NSDate class]] || [c isSubclassOfClass:[NSData class]] _______________________________________________________ Reply to this item at: _______________________________________________ Message sent via/by Savannah http://savannah.gnu.org/ From MAILER-DAEMON Sun Sep 23 09:30:54 2007 Received: from mailman by lists.gnu.org with archive (Exim 4.43) id 1IZRXy-0000Ns-1B for mharc-bug-gnustep@gnu.org; Sun, 23 Sep 2007 09:30:54 -0400 Received: from mailman by lists.gnu.org with tmda-scanned (Exim 4.43) id 1IZRXw-0000LC-D6 for bug-gnustep@gnu.org; Sun, 23 Sep 2007 09:30:52 -0400 Received: from exim by lists.gnu.org with spam-scanned (Exim 4.43) id 1IZRXv-0000Ko-V2 for bug-gnustep@gnu.org; Sun, 23 Sep 2007 09:30:52 -0400 Received: from [199.232.76.173] (helo=monty-python.gnu.org) by lists.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.43) id 1IZRXv-0000Kk-T8 for bug-gnustep@gnu.org; Sun, 23 Sep 2007 09:30:51 -0400 Received: from savannah.gnu.org ([199.232.41.3] helo=sv.gnu.org) by monty-python.gnu.org with esmtps (TLS-1.0:RSA_AES_256_CBC_SHA1:32) (Exim 4.60) (envelope-from ) id 1IZRXv-00034G-Hu for bug-gnustep@gnu.org; Sun, 23 Sep 2007 09:30:51 -0400 Received: from savannah.gnu.org ([199.232.41.3] helo=frontend) by sv.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.63) (envelope-from ) id 1IZRXu-0002QW-NI; Sun, 23 Sep 2007 13:30:50 +0000 Received: from www-data by frontend with local (Exim 4.63) (envelope-from ) id 1IZRXu-0002QT-C5; Sun, 23 Sep 2007 13:30:50 +0000 To: Friedrich , bug-gnustep@gnu.org From: Friedrich X-Savane-Server: savannah.gnu.org:443 [199.232.41.3] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain;charset=UTF-8 X-Savane-Project: gnustep X-Savane-Tracker: bugs X-Savane-Item-ID: 21142 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; de; rv:1.8.1.6) Gecko/20070723 Iceweasel/2.0.0.6 (Debian-2.0.0.6-0etch1+lenny1) X-Apparently-From: 91.19.26.100 (Savane authenticated user fridom) Message-Id: <20070923-133049.sv58890.36020@savannah.gnu.org> References: In-Reply-To: Date: Sun, 23 Sep 2007 13:30:50 +0000 X-Detected-Kernel: Linux 2.6 (newer, 3) Cc: Subject: [bug #21142] #192720 still not fixed in the current tree X-BeenThere: bug-gnustep@gnu.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Bug reports for the GNUstep programming environment List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 23 Sep 2007 13:30:52 -0000 URL: Summary: #192720 still not fixed in the current tree Project: GNUstep Submitted by: fridom Submitted on: Sonntag 23.09.2007 um 13:30 Category: Application Severity: 3 - Normal Item Group: None Status: None Privacy: Public Assigned to: None Open/Closed: Open Discussion Lock: Any _______________________________________________________ Details: Although this bug was closed around 4 months ago it is still there in the newest sources. My suggestion would be either using an own function for that search or better IMHO. Storing the path to the outputted files somewhere. As said I'M short on time therefor this is just a hackerish try. This was not noted in the ChangeLog, nor is it checked in configure. I noticed it because Suse 10.2 provides Cairo-1.2.9. Installing Cairo-1.4.2 at least allowed me to build and run the Cairo backend. (Doesn't work, but that is another story.) However, when I tried Cairo-1.4.10, the current stable release, CairoGState.m copyWithZone: generated errors "Cairo status out of memory in copy path." A quick peek with valgrind didn't reveal any memory errors there. A final nuisance is font names. Since the cairo backend uses FreeType, the selection of fonts is at the mercy of the distribution. In my case, Suse 10.2 provides dozens of fonts, none of which is named "Helvetica." There is "Adobe Helvetica." I'm not sure what to suggest, but perhaps this is best handled in the documentation. My solution was to set the appropriate defaults for NSFont and NSBoldFont. I'm not sure what the intent is with respect to Cairo version requirements, but I thought it worth pointing out. _______________________________________________________ Reply to this item at: _______________________________________________ Message sent via/by Savannah http://savannah.gnu.org/ From MAILER-DAEMON Sun Sep 30 18:44:00 2007 Received: from mailman by lists.gnu.org with archive (Exim 4.43) id 1Ic7W4-0001TM-8L for mharc-bug-gnustep@gnu.org; Sun, 30 Sep 2007 18:44:00 -0400 Received: from mailman by lists.gnu.org with tmda-scanned (Exim 4.43) id 1Ic7W2-0001Qn-Jl for bug-gnustep@gnu.org; Sun, 30 Sep 2007 18:43:58 -0400 Received: from exim by lists.gnu.org with spam-scanned (Exim 4.43) id 1Ic7Vy-0001O2-PM for bug-gnustep@gnu.org; Sun, 30 Sep 2007 18:43:57 -0400 Received: from [199.232.76.173] (helo=monty-python.gnu.org) by lists.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.43) id 1Ic7Vy-0001Nz-Lr for bug-gnustep@gnu.org; Sun, 30 Sep 2007 18:43:54 -0400 Received: from savannah.gnu.org ([199.232.41.3] helo=sv.gnu.org) by monty-python.gnu.org with esmtps (TLS-1.0:RSA_AES_256_CBC_SHA1:32) (Exim 4.60) (envelope-from ) id 1Ic7Vy-0003BR-B5 for bug-gnustep@gnu.org; Sun, 30 Sep 2007 18:43:54 -0400 Received: from savannah.gnu.org ([199.232.41.3] helo=frontend) by sv.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.63) (envelope-from ) id 1Ic7Vw-0007Xu-Kg; Sun, 30 Sep 2007 22:43:52 +0000 Received: from www-data by frontend with local (Exim 4.63) (envelope-from ) id 1Ic7Vw-0007Xo-Dg; Sun, 30 Sep 2007 22:43:52 +0000 To: Fred Kiefer , Mark Tracy , bug-gnustep@gnu.org From: Fred Kiefer X-Savane-Server: savannah.gnu.org:443 [199.232.41.3] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain;charset=UTF-8 X-Savane-Project: gnustep X-Savane-Tracker: bugs X-Savane-Item-ID: 21200 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Konqueror/3.5; Linux) KHTML/3.5.5 (like Gecko) X-Apparently-From: 62.214.203.0 (Savane authenticated user FredKiefer) Message-Id: <20070930-224352.sv431.33753@savannah.gnu.org> References: <20070930-211456.sv53059.39532@savannah.gnu.org> In-Reply-To: <20070930-211456.sv53059.39532@savannah.gnu.org> Date: Sun, 30 Sep 2007 22:43:52 +0000 X-Detected-Kernel: Linux 2.6 (newer, 3) Cc: Subject: [bug #21200] Cairo version dependency and other nuisances X-BeenThere: bug-gnustep@gnu.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Bug reports for the GNUstep programming environment List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 30 Sep 2007 22:43:58 -0000 Update of bug #21200 (project gnustep): Category: None => Backend Severity: 3 - Normal => 2 - Minor Item Group: None => Change Request Assigned to: None => FredKiefer _______________________________________________________ Follow-up Comment #1: First thank you for your comments and for using the expermintal cairo backend of GNUstep. The change to cairo 1.4 was needed to get the clipping working correctly, change on 2007-09-06 (I am not sure at which version cairo added groups, so perhaps there is another dependency). Without proper clipping this backend was useless. Of course you are right, we should check and warn about outdated version of cairo. The problem with cairo 1.4.10 should be fixed in SVN (change on 2007-09-09), at least that was what I was told. I am using cairo 1.4.6 myself (actually on Suse 10.2 just like you). Maybe I should upgrade and test myself. Your problem with the font names is a bit of a mystery to me. We there use the same code to provide default font names as the art backend, but setting the values in the user defaults is always a solution here. _______________________________________________________ Reply to this item at: _______________________________________________ Nachricht geschickt von/durch Savannah http://savannah.gnu.org/ From MAILER-DAEMON Sun Sep 30 18:51:19 2007 Received: from mailman by lists.gnu.org with archive (Exim 4.43) id 1Ic7d9-0000SJ-Fs for mharc-bug-gnustep@gnu.org; Sun, 30 Sep 2007 18:51:19 -0400 Received: from mailman by lists.gnu.org with tmda-scanned (Exim 4.43) id 1Ic7d8-0000SE-O8 for bug-gnustep@gnu.org; Sun, 30 Sep 2007 18:51:18 -0400 Received: from exim by lists.gnu.org with spam-scanned (Exim 4.43) id 1Ic7d6-0000S2-Bf for bug-gnustep@gnu.org; Sun, 30 Sep 2007 18:51:17 -0400 Received: from [199.232.76.173] (helo=monty-python.gnu.org) by lists.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.43) id 1Ic7d6-0000Rz-6J for bug-gnustep@gnu.org; Sun, 30 Sep 2007 18:51:16 -0400 Received: from savannah.gnu.org ([199.232.41.3] helo=sv.gnu.org) by monty-python.gnu.org with esmtps (TLS-1.0:RSA_AES_256_CBC_SHA1:32) (Exim 4.60) (envelope-from ) id 1Ic7d5-0004Hf-Qp for bug-gnustep@gnu.org; Sun, 30 Sep 2007 18:51:15 -0400 Received: from savannah.gnu.org ([199.232.41.3] helo=frontend) by sv.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.63) (envelope-from ) id 1Ic7d3-00006w-1Y; Sun, 30 Sep 2007 22:51:13 +0000 Received: from www-data by frontend with local (Exim 4.63) (envelope-from ) id 1Ic7d2-00006t-P4; Sun, 30 Sep 2007 22:51:12 +0000 To: Riccardo mottola , Fred Kiefer , bug-gnustep@gnu.org From: Fred Kiefer X-Savane-Server: savannah.gnu.org:443 [199.232.41.3] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain;charset=UTF-8 X-Savane-Project: gnustep X-Savane-Tracker: bugs X-Savane-Item-ID: 21173 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Konqueror/3.5; Linux) KHTML/3.5.5 (like Gecko) X-Apparently-From: 62.214.203.0 (Savane authenticated user FredKiefer) Message-Id: <20070930-225112.sv431.26478@savannah.gnu.org> References: <20070927-225520.sv20620.25496@savannah.gnu.org> In-Reply-To: <20070927-225520.sv20620.25496@savannah.gnu.org> Date: Sun, 30 Sep 2007 22:51:12 +0000 X-Detected-Kernel: Linux 2.6 (newer, 3) Cc: Subject: [bug #21173] unimplemented overide in XGFontInfo X-BeenThere: bug-gnustep@gnu.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Bug reports for the GNUstep programming environment List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Sun, 30 Sep 2007 22:51:19 -0000 Update of bug #21173 (project gnustep): Item Group: None => Change Request _______________________________________________________ Follow-up Comment #1: It is just not possible to implement this method properly for XGFontInfo. It should be possible (at least for some fonts) to add this for GSXftFontInfo and CarioFontInfo, as these are based on FreeType. Currently this interface is only supported in the art backend. _______________________________________________________ Reply to this item at: _______________________________________________ Nachricht geschickt von/durch Savannah http://savannah.gnu.org/ From MAILER-DAEMON Sun Sep 30 22:39:57 2007 Received: from mailman by lists.gnu.org with archive (Exim 4.43) id 1IcBCP-0002n7-Pq for mharc-bug-gnustep@gnu.org; Sun, 30 Sep 2007 22:39:57 -0400 Received: from mailman by lists.gnu.org with tmda-scanned (Exim 4.43) id 1IcBCN-0002mJ-O5 for bug-gnustep@gnu.org; Sun, 30 Sep 2007 22:39:55 -0400 Received: from exim by lists.gnu.org with spam-scanned (Exim 4.43) id 1IcBCM-0002ll-Bd for bug-gnustep@gnu.org; Sun, 30 Sep 2007 22:39:55 -0400 Received: from [199.232.76.173] (helo=monty-python.gnu.org) by lists.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.43) id 1IcBCM-0002li-62 for bug-gnustep@gnu.org; Sun, 30 Sep 2007 22:39:54 -0400 Received: from savannah.gnu.org ([199.232.41.3] helo=sv.gnu.org) by monty-python.gnu.org with esmtps (TLS-1.0:RSA_AES_256_CBC_SHA1:32) (Exim 4.60) (envelope-from ) id 1IcBCL-0006wF-Py for bug-gnustep@gnu.org; Sun, 30 Sep 2007 22:39:53 -0400 Received: from savannah.gnu.org ([199.232.41.3] helo=frontend) by sv.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.63) (envelope-from ) id 1IcBCI-0000zM-IA; Mon, 01 Oct 2007 02:39:50 +0000 Received: from www-data by frontend with local (Exim 4.63) (envelope-from ) id 1IcBCI-0000zJ-BM; Mon, 01 Oct 2007 02:39:50 +0000 To: Fred Kiefer , Mark Tracy , bug-gnustep@gnu.org From: Mark Tracy X-Savane-Server: savannah.gnu.org:443 [199.232.41.3] MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain;charset=UTF-8 X-Savane-Project: gnustep X-Savane-Tracker: bugs X-Savane-Item-ID: 21200 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.5) Gecko/20061023 SUSE/2.0.0.5-1.1 Firefox/2.0.0.5 X-Apparently-From: 66.238.96.63 (Savane authenticated user tracy454) Message-Id: <20071001-023949.sv53059.11616@savannah.gnu.org> References: <20070930-211456.sv53059.39532@savannah.gnu.org> <20070930-224352.sv431.33753@savannah.gnu.org> In-Reply-To: <20070930-224352.sv431.33753@savannah.gnu.org> Date: Mon, 01 Oct 2007 02:39:50 +0000 X-Detected-Kernel: Linux 2.6 (newer, 3) Cc: Subject: [bug #21200] Cairo version dependency and other nuisances X-BeenThere: bug-gnustep@gnu.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: Bug reports for the GNUstep programming environment List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Mon, 01 Oct 2007 02:39:55 -0000 Follow-up Comment #2, bug #21200 (project gnustep): Thanks for explaining the details. I have not tried any of the intermediate versions of Cairo. I did try back-0.12 with Cairo-1.4.10 and got the same error messages. The art backend uses nfonts and the docs tell one exactly what needs to be done to get things working. I don't advocate keeping nfonts, just some documented way of making sure that one's font setup is going to work under Cairo. Neither am I suggesting that this be solved with more code. By the way, do you know if the SystemPreferences Fonts control panel works under Cairo/Freetype? I have not been able to test it. _______________________________________________________ Reply to this item at: _______________________________________________ Message sent via/by Savannah http://savannah.gnu.org/
