I gather you mean that as the start of test archives and alpha testing. (The bootstrap script is presently only minimally out of date.) Documentation is reasonably up to date, since I have tried to let my changes enter also there. Unfortunately, telnetd is broken on Arch Linux, probably due to util-linux. Printing of responses from the server on the client screen is missing in important parts. (User name and password exchange must be done blind-folded!) The server works correctly with Debian, FreeBSD and Solaris, so the problem seems specific to Arch Linux. I gave our inetutils-syslogd running on Arch Linux wrapped below systemd, which works well, so it is not clear to me whether systemd is intervening in telnetd-login, causing message losses. Do you think we should fix it for this release? Sometimes a session against a server on Debian will seemingly insert a character that is purely UTF in front of "Login:". This is probably related. I have made recordings with tcpdump of sessions running our telnetd on Arch Linux and FreeBSD, but I have not come around to do the analysis needed to draw any inclusion. Therefore I cannot tell whether this state is easily resolvable. Let me know if you have any questions. I have check this on seven different architectures, including Debian GNU/Linux, Debian GNU/kFreeBSD, and Arch Linux with kernel 3.6.11-1-ARCH. Not a single one of them is able to reproduce a core dump, in spite of repeated runs. Please, try to narrow the setting more closely. The printout seems to indicate a double free issue. Would you go to the trouble of inserting some printf statements at select places? My guess is concerns argument globbing and macro handling. The following variant on "~/.netrc" was used on Arch Linux with inetutils-1.9.1-4. As you see it contains eight rounds of file fetching. I had to use passive mode, due to my place in the world, but executing ftp> $lek zziplib-0.13.62-1.src.tar.gz always succeeded in all combinations with "debug" and "hash". vsftpd was throtteling my connection with 50 kbits/sec. The only error I could achieve was to issue the same command so late that the connection had timed out already, which provoked a segmentation fault, but only after after the message "Passive mode refused.\nNot connected.". Thus your core dump should be unrelated. Regards, Mats Erik Andersson (Side note: inetutils-telnetd is severely misbehaving on Arch Linux, but not on Debian, BSD or Solaris. Let me know how you want me to > instrument it and I'll do so and let you know what I find. I have found that my segmentation fault appears only when a macro was executed and the client has been disconnected. The minute patch below resolves my issue. It is taken against present day development HEAD, but should fit inetutils-1.9.1 with a simple "-p1" shaving. Some ideas: ftp.archlinux.org is throtteling the connection. Could it be that your macro is taking so long time that the connection times out, and then my problem is relevant also to your setting? Could vsftpd fail at update its timer? Positioning of printf-probes could preferable be done close to "c_handler" and "connected" as well as loops in their vicinity. This would suggest that "ftp/domacro.c" and "ftp/main.c" are the most relevant files. Let me boldly say that I appreciate very much your help and interest in repairing GNU Inetutils. I can add that the segmentation fault I observe is happening at /* ftp/domacro.c: 112 */ strcpy (cp2, argv[j + 2]); The interpretation is that the book keeping of `line', `line2', `cp1', and `cp2' is so mediocre that a lost connection positions cp2 beyond its allocated storage. I am right now working on an analysis and an attempt at cleaning this mess. Regards, Mats E A
