Many programs have --help and man pages and info, but still --help is useful without needing to check man pages. Anyway, often one is using mail on an ancient cu(1) modem line and might not even have job control... so say what those tidle escapes are on the same page. It won't cost you too many more bytes. In a thread back in December 2005 (http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-mailutils/2005-12/msg00015.html) large file support in mailutils was discussed. I am at a process of upgrading our mailutils setup to 1.0. I can see that the datatype mu_off_t is in mailutils sources. So my question is whether mailutils is now safe to use (link with other programs) no matter what combination of -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS is used. Although the works to implement it are in progress, bin/mail in its current state is not able to handle SASL authentication. For the time being the best solution is probably to use GNU Anubis as a mail processor. This program is able to get plaintext SMTP connections and to connect to the remote SMTP using a wide variety of authentication schemes supported by gnutls. You will find more information about it, including links to the documentation and downloads on its home page: http://www.gnu.org/software/anubis I plan to finish adding GSSAPI support to bin/mail as soon as possible. > i see that mail has a --tls=BOOL option for connecting with > TLS-capable servers. This and another point mentioned by you (forcing mail to use TLS) are very important features indeed. > If mailutils isn't capable of these distinctions, are they desired > features? Sure, they are. I have the following situation: I need to create a mail message based on the contents of another message. Specifically, the new message contains in its body (parts of) the original message's From: and Subject: headers. The problem comes when From: and Subject: of the original message contain non-ascii characters. In this case in the subject string I get something of the form =?iso-8859-7?Q?=D0=F1=EF=E4=E9=E1=E3=F1=E1=F6=DD=F2?= / Hello =?iso-8859-7?Q?=E3=E9=E1?= =?iso-8859-7?Q?_=F4=E1?= world This contains 8 bit Greek characters, so I need to decode them and include them in a new message with "Content-Type: text/plain;charset=" MY_CHARSET "\n" "Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit\n\n"; I take a look at the mu_parse822* functions and especially mu_parse822_quoted_string but I cannot understand what is needed. Could someone help me on this?
