I think that providing these patches in small chunks will make the whole dbi project a lot easier to swallow and digest. - -Mel -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.4 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFBDKPaNF74HmYqaSERAiNKAJ9tamztN0mbEyDO2YAE6Bth0828XQCg1kFF nglihIDpDmoDvB64m+rFd+o= =XugD -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --h56sxpGKRmy85csR-- From MAILER-DAEMON Wed Aug 04 06:09:24 2004 Received: from mailman by lists.gnu.org with archive (Exim 4.33) id 1BsIi4-0000yK-0V for mharc-help-gnats@gnu.org; Wed, 04 Aug 2004 06:09:24 -0400 Received: from mailman by lists.gnu.org with tmda-scanned (Exim 4.33) id 1BsIi1-0000xo-A4 for help-gnats@gnu.org; Wed, 04 Aug 2004 06:09:21 -0400 Received: from exim by lists.gnu.org with spam-scanned (Exim 4.33) id 1BsIhz-0000xI-DZ for help-gnats@gnu.org; Wed, 04 Aug 2004 06:09:20 -0400 Received: from [199.232.76.173] (helo=monty-python.gnu.org) by lists.gnu.org with esmtp (Exim 4.33) id 1BsIhy-0000xF-Sf for help-gnats@gnu.org; Wed, 04 Aug 2004 06:09:19 -0400 Received: from [66.60.176.161] (helo=sierralogic.com) by monty-python.gnu.org with smtp (Exim 4.34) id 1BsIeO-0004fK-NV for help-gnats@gnu.org; Wed, 04 Aug 2004 06:05:37 -0400 Received: (qmail 4252 invoked from network); 4 Aug 2004 10:05:34 -0000 Received: from unknown (HELO wizard) (192.168.174.221) by 0 with SMTP; 4 Aug 2004 10:05:34 -0000 From: "Stuart Stevens" To: Date: Wed, 4 Aug 2004 03:06:21 -0700 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="----=_NextPart_000_0055_01C479D0.04D653D0" X-Mailer: Microsoft Office Outlook, Build 11.0.5510 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2800.1409 Thread-Index: AcR6CrErNVcw4hiwQzeH3Uk4c6zz7Q== Message-Id: Subject: Unparseable replies from GNATS server X-BeenThere: help-gnats@gnu.org X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.5 Precedence: list List-Id: General discussion about GNU GNATS List-Unsubscribe: , List-Archive: List-Post: List-Help: List-Subscribe: , X-List-Received-Date: Wed, 04 Aug 2004 10:09:21 -0000 This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_0055_01C479D0.04D653D0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit As I make changes to the dbconfig, I will get the "unparseable reply" error. I don't know about changing the built-in fields, though; I have only changed non-built-ins. To change those, 5 lines of the dbconfig file needed to be edited ("Notify-List" to "cc" -- don't ask). If possible despite whatever resistance you're encountering, you might want to default the priority field and add a field, or change an unused, non-built-in. I've been trying to install gnats4 on Fedora Core2, but so far no luck. I have followed what gnats4 documentation says to install it. I currently have a working installation on a Redhat 7.3 machine, so I've copied almost all config files from that machine to the one with FC2, I've changed all those lines that reference stuff from the 7.3 machine so now they reference stuff on the FC2 machine. But when I try the telnet /host/ 1529 thing i get the "Connection closed by foreign host." message. (It's not a firewall thing since i disabled it but still get the message) I tried with gnatsweb, executing the command: /make test USERNAME=gnats PASSWORD=kiLLer7 DATABASE=cissdb/ ...and I get: /connect...........................................FAIL Gnatsweb was unable to connect to the GNATS server. There are several possible reasons for this. Start off by checking that the USERNAME, PASSWORD and DATABASE parameters you supplied are valid. If they are, there may be a problem in the configuration of your GNATS server. Check your GNATS installation, particularly the host access files (remember that the web server needs access to the GNATS server), then run the tests again. make: *** [test] Error 9 / *I ran the configure script like this:* configure --prefix=/usr/local/gnats4 --with-gnats-service=ciss-gnats --with-gnats-default-db=/usr/local/gnats4/com/cissdb ################################################################################################### *On the gnatsd.user_access file we have:* gnats:$0$kiLLer7:admin: <- gnats is also a user on the system, with his home dir on the same machine where I'm trying to install GNATS *My databases file says:* default:Bug database:/usr/local/gnats4/com/cissdb cissdb:CISS Bug database:/usr/local/gnats4/com/cissdb *My gnats.host_access file says:* 139.229.2.147:none: <- I changed this to 127.0.0.1 but still got the same results *.*:deny: <- I commented this one but I still got the same results I even changed from /none/ to /edit/...but still no luck *the services (on /etc) file says: *ciss-gnats 1529/tcp prmsd gnatsd # GNATS, cygnus bug tracker* * *and the ciss-gnats file on /etc/xinetd.d contains* service ciss-gnats { disable = no socket_type = stream protocol = tcp wait = no user = gnats server = /usr/local/gnats4/libexec/gnats/gnatsd server_args = gnatsd } Thx a lot in advance! It looks like he did more to investigate the problem than I did and I haven't tried his solution but this may still be of interest.... Anyone replying to this, please CC me (I seem to have a problem receiving messages sent only to the list). Problem: -------- On Red Hat / Fedora platforms, there can be a failure to connect to the gnats server (e.g. with gnatsweb) because gnatsd crashes as soon as it is started. Solution: --------- When compiling GNATS on Red Hat / Fedora platforms, compiler optimization must be turned off. To do this, either just specify the CFLAGS when running ./configure or, if you like, remove the "-O2"s from each of: ./configure ./gnats/configure ./libiberty/configure There are two in each file. It may be that the problem will be fixed by changing only some of these files but I don't think it's worth checking when optimization is unnecessary anyway. After this, run ./configure and make install in the usual way. Finish installing gnatsweb in contrib/gnatsweb if necessary make install CGI_DIR=/var/www/cgi-bin/ (at least that's the CGI dir on my installation according to /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf and I think it's the default contrary to what gnatsweb INSTALL says), start httpd if not already running /usr/sbin/apachectl start and browse to http://localhost/cgi-bin/gnatsweb.pl Though the fault may not lie with GNATS, I strongly recommend removing optimization for gcc from the default CFLAGS for the next version of GNATS. Cause? ------ I'm guessing that the problem is something to do with Red Hat / Fedora distributions - in any case, I notice that previous posts I found on the web describing apparently the same problem mention Red Hat or Fedora (Lorna Watts, David Miller, myself) where the distribution is specified at all. Hi

Does anybody have a recommendation on how to add an append-only comments
field?

I would like edits to allow new additions to the field and views to show the
whole field.

Stuart

In edit.c, set_field is being called with old_value set to 0x00.

     if ((old_value == NULL && new_value != NULL)
         || (new_value == NULL && old_value != NULL)
         || (new_value != old_value && strcmp (old_value, new_value) != 0))
       {
         /* Ignore changes to readonly fields. */
         if (fieldDefForIndex (field)->readonly)
           {
             fieldsChanged[x] = 0;
             set_field (new_pr, field, old_value, err);
           }
         else
           {
             fieldsChanged[x] = 1;
           }
       }

I am running GNATS 4.0 on Linux - Red Hat 9. I pulled the TOT and rebuilt
this morning. I then run the daemon directly and I got a memory fault. The
daemon fails with the following field "Comment-new" added to dbconfig:

field "Comments" {
    multitext
    read-only
}

field "Comment-new" {
    multitext
    on-change {
        append-to-field "Comments" {
                "Comment added by %s on %D\n\n%s"
                "$EditUserEmailAddress" "$CurrentDate" "$NewValue"
        }
    }
    on-change {
        set-field "Comment-new" {
            ""
        }
    }
}

I issued the following commands:

lock 2511 stuart
editaddr stuart
edit 2511
<email with changes>

Next step is to get into the debugger.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Stuart

I am trying to pull down the latest gnatsweb code and I was unable to login.
I used CVS 1.11.2 from behind a firewall.

CVS password:
cvs [login aborted]: connect to subversions.gnu.org(199.232.41.3):2401

You're trying to connect to the subversion server for a CVS repository!
Bad! ;-) Take a look at this site for instructions:

This is my first mail to the list. I hope to help other people in the future. I'm looking for a user request system like Lotus Notes but free. I tried gnats and i think that it's the best solution for my problem, but I need a web interface for users.
