Now, I do. I found that the problem is actually solved.

My mistake. I thought it was xemacs it did not find.

Sorry, I wasn't careful enough.

This is what does work. Great.

My exec-path includes:  c:/Program Files/MiKTeX 2.5/miktex/bin

c:/Documents and Settings/be $ (setenv "GS" "c:/Program 
Files/gs/gs8.53/bin/gswin32c.exe")
c:/Documents and Settings/be $ cd Desktop/auctex-11.84/auctex-11.84/
c:/Documents and Settings/be/Desktop/auctex-11.84/auctex-11.84 $ sh ./configure
c:/Documents and Settings/be/Desktop/auctex-11.84/auctex-11.84 $ make
c:/Documents and Settings/be/Desktop/auctex-11.84/auctex-11.84 $ make install
c:/Documents and Settings/be/Desktop/auctex-11.84/auctex-11.84 $ 

And it works with preview out of the box.
