Please ignore, turns out this is due to some stupid gentoo patch that I
wasnt aware of - the original 5.2.0 works just dandy:
daneel src # ./uname -a
Linux daneel.uninett.no 2.4.24 #3 Tue Feb 3 10:26:51 CET 2004 m68k unknown
unknown GNU/Linux
daneel src # ./uname -p
unknown
daneel src # ./uname -i
unknown
