Yes, of course.
Sometimes I use test versions of automake and or autoconf
and find it very convenient to use CVS to track the changes
induced in those generated files.
Back when autoconf and automake were evolving particularly
rapidly, I found that keeping version-controlled config.h,
config.log, etc. (per test system) made it much easier to
find tool-induced portability problems. But those ,v files
are in a separate repository.

I applied those, except check-recursive is already .PHONY.
