echo will simply write back the arguments passed to it. If there's a 
problem with certain characters, that sounds more like a 
misconfiguration of the terminal than a bug with echo.

Could you give an example of what commands were used and the results 
seen? Piping the output of echo though "od" or "hexdump -C" would be 
useful.
