That's true from your perspective. But a distributor's perspective is more like
this: coreutils-5.3.0 is not on ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/coreutils/. In this
directory, version 5.2.1 is the newest stable release before the start of
the 5.9X series, that had its first "stable" release (6.3) just 4 months ago.
Many Linux distributions have a release frequency of 1 / year or 2 / year,
therefore if they stick only to the stable releases that you put on
ftp.gnu.org, they will continue to distribute coreutils-5.2.1 until this
summer or fall.
