But you are asking a generic question about your system.  Sorry but we
can't help you here.  Unless you have a bug report about the GNU
coreutils?

It appears you have a problem with your terminal settings.  This has
nothing to do with the coreutils but you might try resetting your tty
settings.  But bash also saves and restores the tty state.  You might
try this:

  $ stty sane
  $ bash
