Please describe exactly what actions triggered the bug
and the precise symptoms of the bug:

Sometimes running ispell works sometimes it doesn't.  When it doesn't it
appears to be in a loop which I stop with ^g.  I have found a comment on a news
group with a similar problem, and a response saying this is rare.

aspell --version     gives (I'm using aspell for the spell check)

@(#) International Ispell Version 3.1.20 (but really Aspell .33.7 alpha)

This is from the latest redhat rpm for aspell on the rpmfind site.  I'm
running RedHat 7.1 with a 2.4.9-6 kernel.

The only other thing I have to offer is that I have sometimes gotten a message
when ispell finishes running.  That message is

"Ispell misalignment word `<greek phi><double dots over an o>' probably
incompatible versions", where I have used <...> to describe a single character
on my screen.

So probably I have incompatible versions, but all on my system is up to date.
And of course I have no idea just what is incompatible with what.

I don't recall having problems except when editing ".tex" files, but then I
rarely spell check within emacs with any other kind of file.
